European Honey Evaluation Koper - Slovenia

We conducted the first
European Honey Contest!

On September 26th, in collaboration with the Coastal Beekeeping Society of Koper, the Slovenian Beekeepers' Association hosted the inaugural European honey evaluation! We received 114 honey samples from 11 different countries (Slovenia, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Slovakia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, North Macedonia, and Spain).

The 10-member expert committee was led by Dr. Mojca Korošec from the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana, alongside domestic and international sensory honey evaluation experts: Dr. Jasna Bertoncelj, Dr. Nataša Lilek, Dr. Dražen Lušić, Dr. Lidija Svečnjak, Dr. Nada Vahčić, Dr. Gian Luigi Marcazzan, Primož Božnar, Simon Golob, and Tina Žerovnik. The evaluation panels covered five categories of honey: acacia, multifloral, forest, linden, and chestnut.

The top three honeys in each category will be announced on December 7th, 2024, during a professionally and culinary-themed event in Koper, where they will receive:

  • The title of EUROPEAN CHAMPION 2024,
  • Unique plaques and awards,
  • Medal logos for labeling the awarded honey series,
  • Special recognition in the European Parliament,
  • Analytical reports confirming high quality and safety,
  • The right to use the prestigious title for the next two years!

Before the announcement, the highest-rated honeys will undergo additional quality and safety analysis to ensure they meet the highest standards!
